Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark: 100 Commitments for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women

Political commitment to gender equality and empowerment takes more than words. It takes
concrete actions and priority of resources. That was the reason why we initiated this Global
Call to Action on MDG3.
This book clearly illustrates the high level of resolve from many actors around the world.
They are willing and committed to deliver concrete actions that will help accelerate progress
on gender equality and empowerment. And this is what we should commit to continue to
generate.
A World Bank report states that a doubling of resources is needed in order to achieve the
Millennium Development Goal on gender equality – MDG3 – and thus promoting
empowerment of fifty per cent of the world’s population. In most countries, the capabilities
of girls and women far exceed their opportunities. Globally, these gaps imply an enormous
loss of development potential – to the individual girl and woman, her family and community, to the private sector
and to countries.
