As a first time writer, Joseph Otu Larbi's success with his novel Yarteley, lies in his astute ability to capture facts, details and functions, even schemes as they may exist and/or occur in the real world as we know it, and to replicate these in the world of his novel, thus making the narration at once fictional yet believable. The methodical creation of characters--like Chris Haughton, the callous villain, juxtaposed against the unassuming genius and extremely alert hero, Gilbert Carson; and the striking idealized Sylvia and her adorable, long-time friend and confidant, Berenice--and the daedal, fast-paced narration filled with cunning manoeuvres and instances of delicate minutiae description of places or processes demonstrate the author's acute attention to detail and for the achievement of a well thought-out plot.
