Gender Equality from a Christian Perspective

Often the concept of gender is misunderstood and therefore needs clarification. According to Uchem (2005) gender means " the socially constructed roles that men and women are expected to perform in a given society – in the family, community and church; society " s expectations of how men and women should feel, look, or act " (p.44). For Riley (2007), gender refers to " the social roles, expectations and responsibilities assigned to women and men because of their biological differences.
