The HIV pandemic is one of the greatest challenges facing the world today. The disease robs millions of their lives and devastates the fabric and the livelihood of families, communities and nations. When the HIV/AIDS problem began to receive wide-spread publicity in the early 1980s, it was first identified among persons who were homosexual. This led people to believe that homosexuality caused HIV transmission. These days, it is common knowledge that it is not a person's sexual preference which results in HIV infection but rather engaging in risk behaviors or being involved in specific risk situations.
