Uncounted: Political Prisoners in Burma's Ethnic areas

This report presents a sample of 46 cases that comply with the description in Pinheiro’s statement but remain unrecognised as political arrests. They are people mostly in Burma’s ethnic areas detained on accusations of supporting ethnic nationality opposition groups. The accusations range from offering
support through food and accommodation, to knowledge of opposition group movements, to actually being a member of an ethnic nationality opposition group. This report also finds that these people are
targeted because the SPDC has zero tolerance for political pluralism and dissent. The SPDC tries to accomplish absolute power and the weakening and destruction of the people’s movement through a range of violations intended to put fear into local communities.
