Africa: Gender, Globalization and Resistance

This book is a multidisciplinary exploration of gender equity in the African context from the standpoint of globalization as the highest stage of imperialism in the 2000s. The question is tackled through Africa's cultural, social and economic fragmented realities. Culturally, globalization is analyzed through a a longitudinal study of African history showing that it is an old phenomenon that indeed shaped the continent's relationships with other cultural cradles since the highest antiquity. On the social and economic fronts the boo investigates whether trade can be a vehicle for gender equity in developing countries despite the fact that it has not been a vehicle for international equity in the last fifty years.
